A concussion is a brain injury that results from a brain collision with the skull due to excessive acceleration or deceleration of the head.
Concussions can be caused by a direct impact to the head or by a hit to the body. The whiplash associated with the impact is often what causes a concussion.
Strengthening the neck muscles can help to control the whiplash of the head and neck after an impact. Stronger and faster adapting neck muscles can counteract the forces of an impact more effectively and reduce the risk of a brain to skull collision.
Concussion Risk Reduction Program
Physiostation & Sports Injury Clinic has created a simple concussion risk reduction program consisting of 6 basic neck exercises that can take as little as 10 minutes per workout.
The risk reduction program has been designed for at-risk athletes participating in sports with a high incidence of concussions.
For $10/athlete or $100/team (limit 15 players), an exercise session includes:
- Individual concussion risk reduction exercise instruction;
- Initial workout supervision;
- Individualized feedback during the initial workout;
- A take-home workout plan to help reduce the risk of concussions while playing sports.
